Given the global pandemic this year, the USENIX annual membership meeting was held via Zoom on September 25. The discussion mainly centered around the effects of the pandemic on the organization, and its future outlook.
USENIX is pleased to announce that OSDI, the USENIX Symposium on Operating Systems Design and Implementation, will take place every year beginning in 2021.
As I have already expressed to many of you, I hope that this message finds you and yours doing as well as possible in these extraordinary circumstances.
The Internet Defense Prize is a partnership between USENIX and Facebook that aims to reward security research that meaningfully makes the internet more secure.

The USENIX conference calendar is undergoing some exciting changes!
In response to your feedback, LISA is moving to more convenient dates in the USENIX conference lineup.
Also, beginning in 2020, USENIX will hold two SREcon Americas events: East and West. This change increases opportunities for engagement and maintains the connectedness our communities appreciate in conferences of this size.
On May 20th, USENIX was excited to hold the very first Operational Machine Learning conference: OpML ’19. As over 220 attendees gathered that morning, it became clear that this is a topic which affects a lot of different organizations, and that a lot of work in the domain is in progress in both industry and academia.
In 2014, two years after Instagram joined Facebook, Instagram's engineering team moved the company's infrastructure from Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers to Facebook's data centers. Facebook has multiple data centers across the United States and Europe but, until recently, Instagram used only U.S. data centers.
